5 (technically 6) Unnecessary Spending Habits

1st blog post

As I opened my never ending monthly bank statement earlier, I couldn’t help but notice the number of times Dunkin Donuts appeared. It didn’t occur to me until then how much money I spend on unnecessary things. I know what you’re thinking, “Isn’t the average price of coffee like $1.59?” Okay that may be true, but think about it. If you drink a coffee per day that’s $11.13 a week, $47.70 a month, and $572.40 a year which is entirely too much for a daily pick me up.

Here’s a list of items that I put together that may seem like nothing, but add up in the long run!

1.Bottled Water

Yes water is essential to sustain life, I get it! But not in its bottled form! Most places sell water for a dollar and some change but some really try to get over on you with their prices. Speaking of Dunkin Donuts, their bottled water cost near $2, which is a total rip off considering you could go to your local grocery store and buy a jug for a dollar and sometimes even less!

2. Chap Stick, Lip Balm, or whatever!

I would be embarrassed to tell you how many tubes of this stuff that I’ve gone through this winter! I honestly believe that the manufactures make them super small just so that we can lose them and be forced to buy another! Anyways, I recently hopped on the EOS bandwagon and noticed that I haven’t lost one since! Its bigger size and odd shape decreases the chance of it being misplaced, so I highly recommend that you all invest in one.

3. Gym Memberships

We all wanna be “straight for the summer,” but majority of us college girls do not have the time to hit the gym. Instead of trying to work out from home we let these gyms suck the money out our accounts for a membership that we don’t even use. Point – if you’re only going to the gym once every three months cancel your membership and save yourself some cash.

4. Seasonal Clothing

I understand that every girl’s favorite season is summer but that doesn’t mean you need a different outfit for each day. Summer, especially in Jersey or the northern states in general, goes extremely fast! Instead of splurging on this specific season during those tempting memorial day sales, buy a couple of a cute outfits, a new bathing suit, a cute pair a shades and keep it moving!

5. Expensive Cocktails

Although I’m not 21 yet, I have friends that are and I’ve seen the devastating bills in result of their alcoholic tendencies! I really don’t understand it. Is it a battle to see who can buy the most drinks? Is it a representation of your financial status? If so, get over yourself and set limits. There’s no need for 3 consecutive pitchers of blue LIT’s just because it’s Thursday. If that’s the case, your wallet will be “thirsty” as well.

Well, that about sums it up. I could go on and on with items that unnoticeably drain our finances but it’s Monday and I’m over it at this point, lol. Anyways, I hope this post has helped you ladies come to some sort of realization. Comments, suggestions and all other types of feedback are all always welcomed.

Have a great week!
